I tend to think I’m pretty woke. I’ve been referred to as a “social justice warrior.”
Here’s where you lose me, though – I just can’t equate the plight of a millionaire athlete to the every day person.
It seems many on social media are applauding Antonio Brown as if he’s some sort of trailblazer. He forced his way out of Pittsburgh and was accused of domestic violence as he was leaving.
This guy is hardly a hero.
He’s also NEVER been underpaid. The Steelers signed him to a $42.5 million dollar deal that ate the last two years of his rookie contract. When his production picked up, they advanced him salary. They then signed him to a third contract to make him the highest paid WR in football.
He’s hardly been treated poorly by the Steelers, and with all that’s going haywire in our world, his ’cause’ or ‘trailblazing’ isn’t even worth spending an idle second on.
Bigger fish to fry, people.
–As someone that was raised in a Catholic family, I love a good fish fry. On Fridays during Lent, I enjoy a jumbo fish sandwich and I wash it down with a pint of Guinness. This isn’t really a religious statement. If someone offered me a steak on Ash Wednesday, I’d eat it. If you don’t believe in eating meat during Lent, good for you. Your faith is strong. Personally, I don’t think that eating red meat is what’s going to send me to hell. If hell exists, I signed my lease in college.
–The Penguins are rolling again. In back-to-back games, they broke the Bruins 19 game point streak and the Capitals 7 game winning streak. I don’t know how far this team will go. I do know that they’re fun to watch again. Jared McCann, Sidney Crosby, and Jake Guentzel have been fabulous together.
–I am a big fan of daylight savings time. My show goes from 4-7p est so, until this week, I hadn’t left work when it’s been light out in a long time. It’s a good feeling.
–Evgeni Malkin just recorded his 1,000th career point and his father and mother were on hand to watch with tears in their eyes. That’s what it’s all about. These guys are pros, but they have had a long journey to get to where they are. Malkin talked after the game about growing up in a small town in Russia and never thinking he’d make it to the league. Good for him. Never give up on your dreams, kids!!
–The new house is coming together. Everything is unpacked and, more importantly, clean. I’ve never been a tidy person. My car is a disaster. My wife is the opposite. She’s the cleanliest person that I’ve ever met. I never thought I’d say this, but I need my house to be in order. It gives me a sense of calm. Whatever works.
–Have I mentioned that I love a good fish fry?
