Using a pipetteOn Saturday, November 3, 2018, Carnegie STEM Girls in the Tour Your Future program visited the Hinman Lab at Carnegie Mellon University.

While on tour, girls had the opportunity to look at life in the ocean on a microscopic level. Girls made cultures of marine invertebrate larvae, investigated tissue regeneration, and saw the diversity of species that exists in our oceans.

They learned how to extract starfish DNA, and received hands-on practice using pipettes.

Dr. Veronica Hinman and her team of research scientists showed us the amazing variety of life in a drop of sea water.
